Clinical Communities is an online networking service from Oyster that helps healthcare professionals interact within and across networks, providing an online meeting place, linking those who share interests and passions within and across therapy areas.

Once registered and logged in, each user creates a profile page, giving their name (and optional photo), job title, affiliation, area of particular interest, research activity, a bibliography of published work and forthcoming events they plan to attend.

A user's network home page displays their mini profile and allows access to a range of dedicated network tools and services:

  • Poll of the week
Oyster's mission is to deliver the right information at the right time, via appropriate gateways, to enable better and more efficient clinical decision-making by healthcare professionals in the NHS. Results from a June 2007 email survey set the foundation for further development of Oyster's coherent, tailored information delivery.

Market research with healthcare professionals registered to Oyster's information services found that 70% rate Oyster's online services as good or excellent. Online professional networking and the ability to share data were identified as a priority for future development by more than half of our respondents.
